DawnStar walked through the forest, her glossy pelt shimmering in the early morning sun. She stretched, pushing out her long legs in front of her and lashing her tail. She was heading deeper in the forest, towards the Fern Crator, when she heard screeches coming from the river. Fighting cats! She raced towards the sound, thinking one of her patrols had caught a trespasser, but when she finally emerged from the trees, she saw none of her clanmates, but a rogue and a RainClan cat fighting near the waterfall gorge in RainClan territory. The river stood in between her and the cats, but the fighters were almost near the edge of the cliff, and she had to do something. She leaped over the river, but landed short since it was flooded and was much bigger than usual, not that she usually crossed it anyway. She scrambled onto the other side and ran over to the cats.
"Stop!" she screeched, but the cats paid no notice, and suddenly the RainClan warrior shoved the rouge off of him with his back legs.
The rouge went flying through the air, and for a few heartbeats DawnStar thought he was going to crash down next to her, but the rouge flew off the cliff, down the gorge.
"No!" she shouted, and ran over. But she was too late. The rouge was spiralling down towards the river below, which looked like a tiny snake from all the way where she was standing.
She backed away from the edge and looked at the RainClan warrior. He was bleeding, but he seemed to take no notice. He was staring in horror down the cliff. He finally seemed to notice her, because he backed away from her. "I..I didn't mean to! He fell over, I didn't think..." he stuttered.
"It's okay." DawnStar murmured. "I'm sorry I crossed the border."
The RainClan warrior shook his head, as if to clear it. Then he looked at her. "Er... It's okay-just get back over on your own side. I have to get back to camp." he stood for a few seconds, then, as if he remembered what he was doing, he turned and walked along side the cliff, to the waterfall and the fork in the river, and swam across, back to his camp.
DawnStar looked once more down the cliff, then flinched and jumped across the river onto the LeafClan side. It had been a hard morning, and the sun was barely up. She went back to camp hoping tomorrow would be better.
